Pimentel Beach

Pimentel was not founded in the colonial period, as the region’s port of reference at the time was San José. It began to appear in documents at the beginning of the Republic under the name Caleta de Salaverry. Later, during the administration of President Ramón Castilla, it was officially renamed Caleta de la Concepción de Chiclayo, a name that did not catch on among the locals. Later, with the arrival of Italian businessman Virgilio Dall’Orso, the name used by the settlers, Pampas de Pimentel, was unofficially adopted. This name was given in honor of Captain Ricardo Pimentel, who had located an anchorage here with better conditions than San José and closer to Chiclayo.
