Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (RNPSA) is a protected natural area of ​​Peru located in the department of Loreto in the Amazon region. With an area of ​​2,080,000 ha (20,800 km²), it is the largest National Reserve in Peru, the third largest protected natural area in the country (after the Dorsal de Nasca National Reserve and the Alto Purús National Park), and the fourth largest protected area in all of South America. It is also the largest protected area of ​​flooded Amazonia (ecosystem known as várzea) in South America, which is why it was designated a RAMSAR site on August 28, 1986. According to the IUCN protected area categories, it is considered a “Protected Area of ​​Managed Resources.”
