Manu National Park
The Peruvian Amazon is never more openly visible than in Manu National Park, a World Heritage Site.
Here, everything seems to be found in its purest form: 221 species of mammals, thousands of birds, and the full range of climates from the tropical lowland rainforest to the frigid punas at over 4,000 m above sea level. Manu is also home to native populations who preserve their traditions; some are completely isolated voluntarily.
Even with secrets yet to be discovered, what Manu shows us is as wonderful as it is unforgettable.
Where is?
It is located in the Manu River basin, in the regions of Cusco and Madre de Dios. It is a protected natural area home to exquisite biodiversity, recognized worldwide, and protected from human impact. The park not only protects a wide diversity of flora, comprised of 2,000 to 5,000 species; and fauna, comprised of more than 2,000 species, including endangered species such as the Andean wildcat; it also safeguards cultural values expressed in the forms of human habitation adapted to the environment in this part of the Amazon developed by indigenous peoples for centuries. Many of these communities have had no contact with the outside world.
