Real Felipe Fortress

The Real Felipe Fortress is a historic military-architectural complex built in Callao Bay for defensive purposes against pirate and corsair attacks during the reign of Viceroys José Antonio Manso de Velasco and Manuel Amat y Juniet. Located in Independence Square, it occupies a pentagon-shaped area of ​​70,000 m2 and has a perimeter of 1,586 m. Its interior features harmoniously integrated diverse spaces, including towers, plazas, passageways, cells, and rooms refurbished for exhibition purposes in the museum, which has been operating since May 2, 1945. The museum collections include diverse historical assets, ranging from heavy military weapons and weapons of war to military uniforms, medals, the national flag, and accessories, among others. The Real Felipe Fortress represents an important educational hub for cultural outreach and is a permanent testament to our history and the revaluation of our identity.
