Tumbes Mangrove National Sanctuary

Explore one of the most stunning and well-preserved destinations, where majestic mangroves up to 25 meters high, wetlands, and lush forests are home to a wide variety of species. Just a few meters from the coast and accessible via a leisurely boat ride from Tumbes, this verdant paradise is home to an abundance of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.

The Tumbes Mangroves National Sanctuary is a protected area in Peru that encompasses a portion of the Gulf of Guayaquil ecoregion, known locally as the Tumbes Mangroves. It is located on the northernmost section of the country’s Pacific coast.

These mangroves once covered approximately 28,000 hectares, but have been significantly reduced over time due to deforestation for shrimp farms.
