Uros Island
These islands are inhabited by the Uros, one of the oldest cultures on the continent, dating back to before the Incas. The inhabitants of this floating community claim to own the waters of Lake Titicaca.
The Uros community’s livelihood is based on fishing and hunting; they also weave wool tapestries and stuff animals. They also participate in tourist activities: There are short tours to the Uros Floating Islands, as well as comprehensive experiences in which you become part of the Uros community. We’ll share both options in this article.
Where is?
Uros Island is located in Lake Titicaca, in the Puno region of Peru. More specifically, it is located in Puno Bay, about 7 km from the city of Puno, in the Peruvian Altiplano. The islands are built with totora reeds, an aquatic plant, and are inhabited by the Uros, an indigenous people who maintain ancestral traditions.
